Description

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble''s Texas Flood announces the arrival of a truly special talent-namely, the last major blues guitarist to emerge with a voice all his own, an immediately distinctive style, and a soulfulness you feel inside the depths of your existence. Not for nothing is Vaughan ranked the 12th Greatest Guitarist in history by Rolling Stone. Spending more than half a year on the Billboard charts and rippling with a freshness that joins contemporary Texas blues and muscular rock at the hip, this 1983 debut started it all. Strictly limited to 7,000 numbered copies and pressed at RTI on SuperVinyl, Mobile Fidelity''s UltraDisc One-Step collector''s edition brings Vaughan and Co. Into your room and places them at your feet. You''ll enjoy deep-black backgrounds, pointillist details, staggering dynamics, and arguably, the most lifelike nuances ever committed to vinyl. Experienced via UD1S, Vaughan''s scrunchedup face, closed-eyes appearance, quick-draw fingers, and cowboy hat come into pristine focus. The searing tones from his Fender Stratocaster and every touch of his pick on the strings are captured with extreme delicacy. This is the closest you will ever come to hearing Vaughan perform at Antone''s, circa 1982.

I bought box Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - Texas Flood from Amazon last week...
Inside a new packed box a surprise was waiting for me...
inside the box, the contents are not tight! and calmly shakes in all directions!
inside the box are two records that are not packaged in a vacuum package or outer plastic bag ...
during transportation, the covers LP''s rub against each other!
as a result - I received spoiled rubbed outer covers as if they were rubbed with sandpaper.
The sheet with the group’s photo and tracklist is also rubbed on both sides.
Both records are off center...:(
Dear MoFi, Where is the quality control ???!!!
For such an expensive price, this is simply outrageous! And not professionally!

This is where the rest of the world got to know about SRV. When you listen to this recording, keep in mind it was done pretty much in one take live in a warehouse owned by Jackson Brown. This entire piece was recorded in 2 days, and was just suppose to be a demo for club owners. As the only unsigned act to play the Montreux music festival shortly before this was recorded, SRV and DT shocked the reserved European audience. This performance was also where SRV won his first grammy It''s where he met Jackson who offered him studio time for free. So after more than 10 years playing road side dives, This is where SRV and DT became over night successes.

What you''ll hear is Texas style 12 bar blues, train wreck bends, and control of the fret board many like myself are still trying to copy 25 years after his death. Stevies influences are all present here, from Albert King to Jimmy Hendrex and so many, many others. If you love the blues, this is what the 80''s were for many of us. Enjoy a legend. RIP SRV.

AXS tv broadcast the story of his musical career and it was a joy to hear these firts recordings after watching the show. Listening to this after watchihng the show was a very enriching experience.

Amazon has failed miserably with their handling of this album. Their claim of a "FREE Digital Download" with purchase of the album is false and misleading in this case. You only get the 10 original "Texas Flood" Tracks for download and not the entire Legacy Edition with the extra track (Tin Pan Alley (AKA Toughest Place in Town) and the 9 live songs on the 2nd disc! The 11th track and 7 of the 9 live songs ARE available for purchase though if you search for them in MP3 -- but any of the customer service reps will tell you they aren''t available! Total rip off if you''re buying for the extra track and live show for your Amazon Music Player.

Stevie Ray Vaughan''s Texas Flood album is one of my favorites, and hands down one of the greatest musical statements of that decade. My review is simply to inform buyers of any differences between this version (1999) and the older original version (1983). Basically, the only reason to buy this newer version is for the bonus tracks. The newer version is not very sonically different than the older original version, which for a CD released in 1983 had better than average sound quality including good bass response and a decent output level. It was mixed and mastered just like a vinyl record using no discernable compression. This newly "remastered" version sounds very similar with just barely a perceptible amount of a higher output level. Also, for those that hate remastered discs that use too much compression to make them seem louder, this version is NOT a victim of the loudness war. I checked the level with a Denon CD recorder and the levels did not even hit the -0- Decibel mark. Hope this helps in making your buying decision.

This cd arrived early and in mint condition. The music sounds incredible. Stevie is truly a great guitarist. The song selection is very good. I like the way this cd has not only the original songs on disk 1 but live additional songs on disk 2.

I have been a blues fan for nearly forty years, yet only recently started listening to SRV. How I wish I started forty years ago. I had heard from other blues fans he was one of the best, but you really have to sit down and listen to realise there was no one better in this field. So much is spoken about his phenomenal guitar playing that it obscures what a good singer he was. I cannot believe any Blues or true R-&-B fans will not love this collection.

Quite simply wonderful blues guitar playing the accuracy of SRV’s playing has to be listened to and enjoyed, Pride and Joy and Texas Flood are particularly good and of course the standout Lenny. Whilst the album is not expensive it’s cost me a fair bit of cash buying other albums, the one with Albert King, The Ultimate Collection and a DVD, I just know there’s more to find

I am often unsure about reissues with an extra disc, just like original vinyls released on CD with all sorts of extra tracks, including naff versions of the songs you know, versions that you hear and think: well, these were previously never issued because they''re not very good. So I bought this, wondering what the bonus track on the main disc and the whole extra disc would be like. It is SRV, so I was optimistic. Well, I needn''t have been concerned. The original album recording is excellent - I know most of the songs from a compilation set that I have, and the Texas Flood album does not disappoint. A good example of how trying to classify music into one genre or another does not always work. Rock? Blues? SRV, very well supported by Double Trouble, is all the categorisation it needs. And the second disc definitely exceeded my expectations. It''s a good quality live recording from the same year as the original album, including his excellent versions of Hendrix''s Voodoo Chile and Little Wing. If you like SRV, then you must surely like this. Hard to imagine how amazing it would have sounded when hearing him for the first time. Shame he died so early, otherwise he would surely have just carried on and on producing wonderful music.

While being aware of the name, I had never really listened to Stevie Ray Vaughan before. That was a mistake and one I am very pleased to have rectified. He was a top-class guitarist and this album should be in any serious blues fan''s collection.
